Scope of Services

PML specialises in marine and electrical systems associated with dynamically positioned vessels but also handles all other aspects of marine engineering.

PML's aim is to be part of the vessel life cycle, from concept through to detailed design, providing services during the project, manufacturing and yard phases and supporting clients during vessel operation, maintenance, conversion and life extension.

Expertise and Experience

How has PML gained such a reputation for expertise and efficiency? Quite simply because the company was founded in 1994 by experts with more than a century of experience between them and the ability to get things done with a minimum of fuss and a maximum of competence, always keeping the client in mind as well as the economic sensitivity and needs of each undertaking.

Although much of its work is involved in DP services to the energy industry, PML is equally adept in other elements of engineering including cranes, pipelay systems, heave compensation, PLET handling and saturated dive systems. PML's acknowledged expertise in diesel electric propulsion can also be applied to cruise ships and LNG carriers. PML can provide specialist analysis and advice on electrical load balance, harmonics, voltage transience and short circuit calculations. Measurement, recording and analysis of electrical system data during typical operations and system disturbances can also be carried out.

PML provides advice on a wide range of naval architectural and marine engineering matters, with experience of managing stability issues, structural integrity and inspection, mooring system maintenance and the upgrade of marine systems (ballast and bilge control systems). Expert advice can be provided on watertight closures and planned maintenance strategies for all onboard marine, mechanical and electrical related infrastructure.

Examples of PML's Work

At the forefront of technology, PML is working closely with one of the world's largest electrical manufacturers and one of the biggest deepwater DP drilling contractors to develop a new concept in diesel electric propulsion.

PML has been assisting a major offshore contractor in identifying the requirements, costs and schedule to extend the life of some of its fleet. This project has involved detailed studies by a multidisciplinary team along with conceptual engineering of conversion options. That service was essential for corporate management choosing a commercially and technically effective low-risk option.

PML has worked in collaboration with a major thruster manufacturer on the design of the mounting and demounting system for its innovative 'podded' thrusters.

An offshore vessel owner engaged PML to upgrade its vessel management system from design, specification and procurement through to installation, commissioning and integrated testing under normal and simulated failure conditions on full DP.
