the ISPS Code

In December 2002, a conference of member states of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) adopted a number of amendments to the 1974 SOLAS Convention, the most far reaching of these amendments enshrines the new International Ship & Port Facility Security Code (the ISPS Code), which is intended to enhance maritime security.

The amendments to SOLAS, including implementations of the code, are mandatory, having commenced on 1 July 2004.
